Pushcart Prize 2016

Two Catamaran contributors were honored with a Special Mention in the recently released Pushcart Prize Anthology 2016 for literary fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction published in 2014.  Catamaran received a special mention for:

November 9th, 2015: Book Club of California in San Francisco

Catamaran authors Christian Kiefer, Robert Kerwin, Jack Shoemaker, and Syed Haider will present their work.  Reception begins at 5:00, readings at 6:00.  Book Club of California is located near Union Square at 312 Sutter St., Suite 500 in San Francisco.

Fall Release Party Santa Cruz Art League

Join Catamaran to celebrate the release of our fall issue at the Santa Cruz Art League on Thursday, October 29th from 5-7pm.  Reception begins at 5:00, readings begin at 6:00. Fall issue contributors Noria Jablonski, Dan Linehan, Adela Najarro, and Patrice Vecchione will read from their work. SCAL is located at 526 Broadway St. near downtown in Santa Cruz. 

October 17th, 2015: San Francisco LitQuake

Catamaran will participate in the San Francisco LitQuake event during Lit Crawl at Four Barrel Coffee, 375 Valencia Street, on October 17th at 6:00.  Catamaran authors Patrice Vecchione and Barbara Tannenbaum and Catamaran poets Iris Dunkle, Amanda Moody, and William Greenwood will read from their work. 

October 6th, 2015: Literary Salon at Gabriella Cafe

Join us for dinner beginning at 6:00 with a literary panel beginning at 7:30.  Catamaran will feature a discussion on science and nature writing with contributors Charles Hood, Thomas Crawford, and John Moir.  The panel will be moderated by Catamaran contributor and UCSC professor Micah Perks.  Join in for a salon style discussion after a short presentation by the panelists.  Seating is limited to 40 guests so phone Gabriella Cafe to make a reservation at 831 457-1677.

September 4th, 2015: Homeless Garden Project Tea Party and Readings 

Join us for a public reading to celebrate our summer issue and our collaboration with the Homeless Garden Project. Readings will be held at 6:00 and at 7:15 from our summer issue contributors featuring Jason Wake Smith, William Butler, and Elizabeth McKenzie. We will also feature a special reading by Paul Skenazy from his story "Between the Rows" about the Homeless Garden Project published in Catamaran spring 2013 issue.

July 25th, 2015: Catamaran Donor and Volunteer Appreciation Event Aboard The O'Neil Sea Odyssey at the Santa Cruz Marine Labs, Santa Cruz Harbor

Catamaran Literary Reader would like to thank donors and volunteers with a celebratory reading and voyage on July 18th from 4:00 - 7:00 pm. The event will be hosted at the Marine Lab by O'Neil Sea Odyssey, located in the Santa Cruz Harbor. Catamaran contributors Ellen Bass, Jonathan Franzen, and Charles Hood will read their work at a short presentation after the sail.  

June 6-7th, 2015: The Bay Area Book Festival

Catamaran Literary Reader will be at the Bay Area Book Festival, the Bay Area's biggest book festival, taking place on June 6th and 7th. Come out and visit Catamaran as we table in Berkeley's Downtown Arts District!

May 21st, 2015: Catamaran Reading at The Depot Bookstore & Cafe in Mill Valley, Marin County


Be sure to come out for a fantastic reading hosted by Catamaran at The Depot Bookstore & Cafe in beautiful Mill Valley! April 18-19th, 2015: Catamaran at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, University of Southern California

Catamaran will be at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, the United States' biggest book festival, taking place April 18th and 19th. On Saturday the 18th, we will be presenting Catamaran during the day at a booth on the USC Campus, and hosting a reading with Catamaran's Los Angeles based contributors at the Blackstone Gallery in the evening. We look forward to meeting our loyal Los Angeles readers at these events, so come say hello!

Join Catamaran Literary Reader for a special reading Friday, April 17th, at Stories Books & Cafe in Echo Park. A reception will be held from 7-7:30pm, promptly followed by a reading from Catamaran contributors Charles Hood, Aleida Rodriguez, and Barbara Tannenbaum. The reading will touch on Los Angeles' unique cultural atmosphere and sense of place, through Hood's nonfiction exposition of the rare birds found on LA beaches, Rodríguez's recent poems featured in the anthology Poetry Los Angeles, as well as her other work inspired by the city and its themes, and Tannenbaum's recent fiction set at the Hollywood Bowl.

April 12th, 2015: Issue 9 Release Party at Bonny Doon Vineyard, in Davenport, Santa Cruz North County

Join us as Catamaran Literary Reader celebrates the release of our 9th Issue! We will be hosting an issue release party on Sunday, April 12th at the Bonny Doon Vineyard tasting room. There will be a reception from 6-7 pm, including complimentary wines from Bonny Doon Winery, followed by a reading at 7. Readings will be performed by Catamaran Literary Reader contributors Candace Calsoyas, Randall Grahm, Ryan Masters and Barbara Tannenbaum.


April 12th, 2015: Catamaran Panel presentation and booth at the The San Jose Poetry Festival in downtown San Jose

Come celebrate poetry at the historic Le Petit Trianon Theatre at 72 N. 5th Street in San Jose on Sunday, April 12th 2015 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The festival will be an opportunity for poets to come and present their work at open mics and attend workshops to train their writing with their peers. Catamaran will be present at the Small Press/Journals Panel from 1:45 to 2:35 pm and will have a booth set up with magazines and information available all day.
