December 6th: Salon at Gabriella Cafe with local author Christina Waters to celebrate her new book Inside the Flame. 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Inside the Flame invites readers to detach from computers, cell-phones and televisions in order to build more meaningful existences, and rediscover what it means to be fully present. Christina Waters is a fifth generation Santa Cruz native with an academic background–she received a BA in anthropology from George Washington University, and a PhD from UC Davis in philosophy . She is also a journalist, woodworker, gardener, musician, teacher, and painter. We will begin the evening with dinner starting at 6:00pm, followed at 6:30pm by a reading, discussion, and salon style Q&A. Guests may order dinner from the Gabriella Cafe menu's selection of wonderful farm to table cuisine. Reservations with the restaurant are required. December 2nd: Lit Chat with Dan White, First Friday at the Tannery Arts Center, Studio 118, 6:00 Reception, 6:30 Presentation
Join us to celebrate the release of local author Dan White's Under the Stars on December 2nd in studio 118 of the Tannery Arts Center. Under the Stars chronicles Dan Whites exploration of the American wilderness, and the way that our relationship to these wild spaces has evolved from one of fear to one of pleasure and freedom. Dan White is the author of The Cactus Eaters: How I Lost My Mind and Almost Found Myself on the Pacific Crest Trail, and is the contributing editor to Catamaran Literary Reader. Lit Chat is free to subscribers and donors and includes a reception and discussion of the work after the 6:00 reception.

November 4th: Lit Chat with Author Liza Monroy, First Friday at the Tannery Arts Center, 5:30 - 7:00
Join us to celebrate the release this month of Liza Monroy's collection of essays Seeing As Your Shoes Are Soon To Be On Fire. The Lit Chat will take place at the Tannery Arts Center, 1050 River St, Santa Cruz in studio 118,. Lit Chat is free to subscribers and donors and includes a reception and discussion of the work after a short presentation at 6:00. Liza Monroy’s new book is a collection of deeply personal essays that tackle the universal themes of romantic and familial love, fate and chance, all told in a humorous and intelligent manner. LIZA MONROY is the author of The Marriage Act: The Risk I Took to Keep My Best Friend in America… and What It Taught Us About Love and Mexican High.

October 18th: Dinner and Talk with Dan White at Laili Restaurant, 6:00
Join us for dinner and a literary salon with author Dan White. Dan will discuss the creation of his newly released book Under the Stars followed by a salon style discussion. October 7th: Lit Chat with author Kat Meads, First Friday at the Tannery Arts Center, 6:00 - 9:00
Author Kat Meads will talk about her her new book In This Season of Rage and Melancholy Such Irrevocable Acts as These. There will be a reception and an art exhibit by Philip Rosenthal whose paintings have appeared in Catamaran, and who is the cover artist for Kat's book. The Lit Chat will take place at the Tannery Arts Center, 1050 River St, Santa Cruz in studio 118.

September 2nd: Poetry Reading at the Homeless Garden Project, Downtown Santa Cruz First Friday
Poets Robin Estrin, Cynthia White, and Terry Adams will read their poems from the Catamaran Summer Issue. Readings begin at 6:00, followed by reception and music from 6:30-8:30. The Homeless Garden Project shop is located at 110 Cooper Street, Suite 100G Santa Cruz, CA 95060, which is in an alleyway off of Pacific Avenue which is near the Museum of Art and History. The event is during Santa Cruz First Friday Art Walk.

Join us for a Catamaran event during the AWP conference in Los Angeles. We will have a reception from 6:00-6:30 followed by readings from 6:30-7:30 from our newly released spring issue and more.
March 15th: Literary readings at the new Colligan Theater at the Tannery Arts Center 5:00-6:30
Join us for an evening of literary readings and literary performance at the new Colligan Theater in Santa Cruz. We will have a reception on stage for the presenters at 5:00, followed by literary performances from 5:30 - 6:30. Our show will include a staging of the short story "Mundo Meets World" featured in Catamaran Issue 12 by playwright Octavio Solis, and a performance of baroque violin plus a reading from his Catamaran Issue 12 essay "Meeting Phillip Glass" by RCA O'Neal. Other contributors in poetry and fiction will give short readings from their work.

March 4th: 3rd Annual Catamaran Art Show at the R.Blitzer Gallery
The annual Catamaran Art Show will open at the R.Blitzer gallery on March 4th during First Friday. The art show will feature original works from artists featured in the last four quarterly issues of Catamaran Literary Reader. To celebrate the opening of the show join us for a special artist talk at the R.Blitzer gallery from 3:00-4:00 followed by light refreshments, music, and a raffle. The Catamaran Art Show will be open to the public for the month of March every Wednesday - Saturday from noon to 5:00pm.
March 1st: Salon at Gabriella Cafe with Elizabeth McKenzie 6:00-8:00
Join us at Gabriella Cafe for a dinner and salon style discussion with novelist Elizabeth McKenzie. Elizabeth has just released her third novel The Portable Veblen in January to critical acclaim. We will begin the evening with dinner starting at 6:00, and then at 7:30 we will have a short talk about the book with Elizabeth McKenzie followed by salon style Q&A. The New York Times said about the book that "One of the great pleasures of reading Elizabeth McKenzie is that she hears the musical potential in language that others do not."
February 11th: Bookshop Santa Cruz Reading for Winter 2015 Issue
Join Catamaran Literary Reader contributors for a celebration of the release of their Issue 12 (Winter 2015), featuring authors Richard M. Lange, Eireene Nealand, Tom Bentley, Vicky Mlyniec, RCA O'Neal, and poet Veronica Kornberg. Enjoy a reception with light refreshments from 7:00 - 7:30 and readings from the new issue from 7:30-8:30.
February 2nd: Salon at Gabriella Cafe with artist Frank Galuszka, 6:00 - 8:00
Join us at Gabriella Cafe for a dinner and salon style discussion about art with UCSC art professor and prolific artist Frank Galuszka. Frank's fine art makes it's second appearance in Catamaran in our newly released Issue 12, Winter 2015. Come view Frank's original landscape paintings on display in Gabriella Cafe for the month of February. Our salon doors open at 6:00 for dinner and discussion. At 7:30 Frank will be introduced by Christina Waters, and Catherine Segurson will conduct a brief talk with Frank about his art and process. We will then open up to the salon participants for a lively Q&A.
January 22nd: Lit Chat featuring The Portable Veblen, Tannery Arts Center, Studio 118, 5:30-6:30
Donors at the Racing Crew level and above are invited to join our editors for a reception and "Lit Chat" about books and participate in our book lending library. The reception is from 5:30 - 6:00. Then at 6:00 an editor will make a short presentation on a recommended book of the month, followed by book signing and book sales. Lit Chat will take place every Third Friday. This month's featured book is the newly released novel "The Portable Veblen" by our own Elizabeth McKenzie.
