Suzanne Jill Levine, renowned translator and recipient of the 2024 PEN/Ralph Manheim Award for lifetime achievement in translation, will team up with memoirist/poet/playwright Zack Rogow for this literary soirée. Jill and Zack will discuss hybrid writing, the innovative way authors tell an engaging tale by quilting together different kinds of texts, from narrative, to newspaper stories, to letters, to police reports. Jill will discuss her translations of the great Argentinian novelist Manuel Puig, author of Kiss of the Spider Woman, Heartbreak Tango, and The Buenos Aires Affair, among other groundbreaking novels. Zack will present his new memoir, Hugging My Father's Ghost, about his writer dad, Lee Rogow, who died when his son was only three years old. With sharp pathos and laugh-out-loud humor, Zack collages together his father’s confidential writings, vintage photos from World War II and the 1950s, and imaginary conversations between himself and his dad to solve the puzzle of the father he hardly knew.
